Well, well, well, aren't you lot full of surprises! It's lucky we weren't taking bets on this list, because this next entry would have emptied all our pockets! It's speedy, it's heavy, and it's coming all the way from Denmark...it's Fatal Portrait.
Fatal Portrait is an album by King Diamond - and for those of you who are unfamiliar with this band, King Diamond are a Danish speed metal group formed in 1985. Three of their members had recently departed the group Mercyful Fate, and decided to form a new band under the King Diamond moniker, as it was already known from the Mercyful Fate days. The first of their albums, Fatal Portrait, was released in 1986.
Fatal Portrait was quite well received by fans and critics, with fans voting it the band's fourth best album (out of 12) on Ranker and Loudwire. The Top Tens placed the album at No.46 on their list of 'Best Heavy Metal Albums of the '80s', and Best Ever Albums gave Fatal Portrait a respectable score of 69/100. It is regarded by many fans as one of the band's best albums.
So, there you have it, folks. Fatal Portrait makes our list, ahead of the likes of ...And Justice For All, Ace Of Spades, and Somewhere in Time. Are you surprised to see this album make our top 50? I'd say this is the first big surprise of the countdown so far, but do you agree? Let us know in the comments section below...
Right, I'm off to listen to a bit of Scandinavian speed metal, so I shall see you all a bit later for the afternoon entry...
